This year, festivities will be headed up by Croydon’s early dubstep architects turned global sensations Skream and Benga, the Netherland’s cross genre musical mad scientists Noisia, emerging liquid drum and bass sensation Lynx, self confessed breaks party animals Breakfastaz, metal sampling breakcore auteur Aaron Spectre aka Drumcorps, and most importantly a true cross Atlantic drum and bass showdown between the UK scene leaders Andy C and MC Lowqui and America’s finest, Dieselboy and MC Messinian. And of course, let’s not forget local stalwarts Concord Dawn, State of Mind, Bulletproof, Timmy Schumacher, Paddy Free, Agent Alvin, MC Kyla and P-Money .
Beyond the DJ circuit, expect live appearances from The Upbeats (with a burlesque dance troupe!), Salmonella Dub, Katchafire, New Zealand music’s man of the moment Tiki Taane, Olmecha Supreme, Minuit and Bondi Beach based dub, jazz, hip hop sensations Budspells and sixty three so other bands, djs and MCs, performing over two different back-to-back, light and sound show extravaganza scale arenas guaranteed to take you on a divergent, but always enjoyable musical journey.
What else? Hot showers, flush toilets, licensed bars, eftpos, massive range of food stalls, free drinking water, supervised swimming holes and one hell of a light and sound extravaganza!
Phat 09 will be, as it always is, one of New Zealand’s premier outdoor New Years Eve music festivals. Its one hell of a party, but with all the relaxation luxuries you could possibly require between rounds on the dance-floor; bloody perfect!
