Empathy Recordings in association with Bassdrop.co.nz are pleased to announce the release of the Rumble in the Jungle CD mixed by Mr Smith. The concept was simple, the winner of the 2006 RITJ competition was to mix a hand picked selection of Drum and Bass tracks from select producers from NZ and abroad.
A born and bred Wellingtonian, It didnt take Mr Smith (aka Cole Smith) long to discover the local drum and bass culture and then catch the dj bug. After locking himself away in his bedroom fine tuning his dj skills, it was evident that Mr Smith had a natural talent for mixing drum and bass. The Rumble in the Jungle competition would prove that. After a series of heats, the final competition was very close coming down to three contestants - two from Auckland and Mr Smith from Wellington. A packed final saw some some slick mixing and a tough decision from the judges, with Mr Smith emerging as Rumble Champion 2006.
Recorded and mastered by the Empathy team the 'Rumble in the Jungle / Mr Smith Mix' is the premium live set from NZ's best. Featuring tracks by State of Mind, Concord Dawn, Psidream, Agent Alvin, Trei, Dose, Fanu, Nanotek, CMD, Bulletproof, Polarity, Pyro vs Jester, Organiks & Roye Darke.
We encourage you to check it out, get involved and support your local artists and talented dj's..

Thank you so much for all the submissions received for Phat 08 (Deadline being this Saturday)!!! Dave and Selena have been swamped with submissions and they will work through them as fast as they can. They will not be making any announcements until the end of July at the earliest because they want to take the time to check every submission out properly. Please wait to hear back from them as constant quizzing will just slow them down. As long your email was included in your submission you will definitely get a reply, either way!..Read the full post..

The original “King of the Rollers”, it can be argued that Doc Scott is one of the true legends of jungle drum and bass music. From Reinforced to Metalheadz and finally his own label 31 Records. Doc Scott has always been a drum and bass pioneer whether behind the turntables or at the controls in the studio.
Responsible for genre defining cuts such as 'Here come the drumz' and 'Shadowboxing', Doc Scott is also the man who introduced artists such as Marcus Intalex and Pendulum to the wider drum and bass community and market via his own imprint 31 Records.

Since 2002 Cern have been djing and producing drum and bass, inspired by supporting some of the local and international acts for New Zealand drum and bass pioneers Subtronix and Cyanide.
2006 saw collaborations with Bulletproof, 'Rokhedz' and 'Red Mercury', and pushing the neurofunk sound by promoting visiting artists such as Mayhem, Noisia, Psidream and D Bridge.
2007 has been a productive year for Cern working on collaborations with New Zealand's finest up and coming producers Vanadis, Teknik, Menace and Dose.
''Ríse'' featuring Vanadis is a venture into the smoother side of drum and bass. A beautifully atmospheric tune with tight minimal drum programming and a underlying modulated bassline. Look out for the cheeky vocal and subtle brass stabs.
''Don't Know" is based around a vintage piano sample. Featuring smooth filtered reece bass parts, eerie keys and washy pads, This tune ties together nicely, Definatley a 5am in morning tune for all you djs out there.
